Cambodia-Turkey Aim to Boost US $1 Billion in Trade as Cambodia Opens Embassy in Ankara

PHNOM PENH: The Foreign Ministers of Cambodia and Turkey have expressed their commitment to holding the third meeting of the Joint Economic Commission to seek practical action in achieving the goal of 1 billion US dollars in bilateral trade relations in line with the economic potential available in both countries. This is according to a press release issued by the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn’s official visit to the Republic of Turkey on 26-27 February.

During Cambodian Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn’s official visit to Turkey, the Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu confirmed Turkey’s readiness to hold the third round of political consultations between the two foreign ministries in the near future. Both sides agreed to further enhance parliamentary-level cooperation through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on Parliamentary Cooperation.

The two ministers also expressed their willingness to seek and further expand good cooperation between the two countries in the fields of trade, education, training, health, textiles, transportation, construction, energy, agriculture, repair and maintenance, tourism and also demining.

According to the website ‘trading economics’, in 2020, the Cambodia-Turkey trade volume reached around 19 million US dollars.

The commitment to promote trade between the two countries comes as Cambodia opens its embassy in Ankara, Turkey, after establishing 28 years of diplomatic relations.
